What we need to know about Monkey Pox Virus
Monkeypox is caused by the monkeypox virus, which is related to smallpox, but is considerably less severe and has a minimal risk of infection, according to scientists.
It’s usually found in distant portions of Central and West Africa, amid tropical rainforests.
The virus is divided into two strains: west African and central African, with the milder west African variant now circulating in other parts of the world.
The virus is currently spreading in the community due to an extremely high number of people sick with monkeypox outside of Africa who have no travel ties to the region.

What are the signs and symptoms of the Monkey Pox Virus?
Fever, headaches, swellings, back pain, and aching muscles are among the first signs.
Once the fever has broken, a rash might appear, usually starting on the face and spreading to other areas of the body, most commonly the palms and soles of the feet.
The rash, which can be highly itchy or painful, evolves and progresses through phases before creating a scab that eventually falls off. Scarring may occur as a result of the lesions.
The infection typically goes away on its own within 14 to 21 days.

What’s the best way to prevent Monkey Pox Virus before catching it?
When someone comes into close touch with an infected person, monkeypox can spread.
The virus can enter the body through a break in the skin, the respiratory tract, or the eyes, nose, and mouth.
Although it hasn’t been classified as a sexually transmitted infection, it can be spread through intimate contact.
Anyone who has the virus should avoid having sex while they are experiencing symptoms, according to new advice.
While there is no evidence that monkeypox may be transmitted through sexual fluids, those who have been diagnosed with the virus are encouraged to use condoms for the first eight weeks following infection as a precaution.
It can also be transferred by contact with infected animals including monkeys, rats, and squirrels, as well as virus-infected materials like bedding and clothing, or by eating infected food.

What is the Treatment for Monkey Pox Virus?
Infection prevention can help to avert outbreaks.
Monkeypox can be prevented by vaccinating against smallpox, which has been proved to be 85 per cent effective.
The UK has purchased smallpox vaccination doses, although it is unclear how many will be administered.
Antiviral medications may also be beneficial.
